The Wedding Collection

Number 2: Skincare

Hello and welcome to my second blog in The Wedding Collection.
This one is much anticipated as it’s all about skincare, my recommendations and my star products that I use on myself! Skincare is so important at any time in your life not just for wedding time but a wedding definitely spurs girls into looking after their skin more and hopefully creates habits that last a lifetime. There is only so much makeup can do – if you have beautiful skin it’s so much easier to have beautiful makeup and it will make applying makeup so much easier for you and your makeup artist! So I suppose I should start by saying the sooner you start your skincare regime the better – it takes time to see results. Six months before your big day is a perfect time to start but before that is great if possible.
Ok well first off I’m going to mention what you can do from the inside out that will benefit your skin immensely! I start every morning with a cup of warm water with fresh lemon or else a glass of room temperature water with lemon slices. This will rehydrate your body after a night’s sleep and also flushes out toxins while fighting wrinkles. When you start this it’s quite common to get a little breakout because it is literally flushing the badness out through your skin but stick with it. I always have a little airtight container in my fridge with a pre-sliced lemon as it takes the hassle out of cutting up a lemon every morning and you’re more likely to stick with it. Along with this try to drink 2 litres of water a day – it’s an oldie but it really helps keep your skin bright and hydrated. It goes without saying to try eat as much fresh fruit, vegetables and salads as possible at this is literally feeding your skin! If you find it hard think about juicing/smoothie making as you can get a lot of goodness into one drink.

Ok so onto my favourite cleansers! Cleansing properly is SO important for healthy, radiant skin. Even on no makeup days you should cleanse too as dirt and grime from the air around you all day, particularly if you are in the city with extra pollution, and natural oils from your skin all build up. My absolute fave cleanser right now is from Irish company (bonus) Pestle & Mortar and it is their unique double cleanse system ‘Erase & Renew’ (€76). Double cleansing is having a bit of a moment right now but it makes complete sense if you think about it. So the first part ‘Erase’ is a beautiful and super effective cleansing balm which literally melts makeup off your face including eye makeup! It is removed with the muslin side of the luxurious double sided cloth for a gentle exfoliation. I use damp cotton pads to remove the eye makeup first just to keep my cloth a little cleaner for longer. This is followed by a delicious gel cleanser ‘Renew’ which is removed with the softer cotton side of the cloth and completes the cleansing process leaving skin bright and radiant, it’s really like you’ve just had a facial! I use the double cleanse system every night and in the mornings I use just the ‘Renew’ gel cleanser and warm cloth and it’s just so lovely as a morning wake up for your skin. Remember a little goes a long way so it lasts quite a while. I also have a Clarisonic (€149) which I use once a week to give my skin a deeper cleanse and brighten. I personally use a cream cleanser with my Clarisonic – La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser (€15) – as I find the foaming cleansers drying on my skin. I also have a REN gel cleanser that I received in a goody bag that I sometimes use with it. You can use it more than once a week depending on your skin type but I find once a week is perfect for me.
So onto moisturising! My cleansing routine in the morning is followed firstly with my eye cream – La Roche Posay Redermic R. It is an amazing, really affordable eye cream (around €25) which contains Retinol to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and caffeine to brighten dark circles. This is followed by two drops of my total fave ( I even have one in my kit) Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum (€43) to hydrate and plump my skin. I let that sink in while brushing my teeth then apply my moisturiser! I kind of like to vary my day moisturisers and at the moment I am loving La Roche Posay Toleriane Riche (€18). I have been using this on and off for about four years I’d say. I love La Roche Posay – it’s a French Pharmacy brand which is paraben free, fragrance free and just so nice. I also really like Bioderma which is another French Pharmacy brand and I recommend both brands to clients and brides with sensitive skin. I also use Pestle & Mortar Hydrate (€48) in my morning skincare routine from time to time. Lastly in the mornings is my SPF which is so important not only for skin cancer prevention but also for anti aging. I apply La Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50 with UVB and UVA protection. It’s so important that your SPF contains BOTH UVA and UVB protection and even more important to wear SPF if you are using Retinol products anywhere in your skincare regime.
At night after my cleansing routine I use the aptly named ‘Superstar’ Retinol Night Oil (€76). This is a super concentrated oil packed full of amazing ingredients including Retinol which is amazing for reducing pore size and tightening the skin and cold pressed, organic rosehip, sunflower and carrot oil which are fantastic anti aging ingredients. I use one pump all over my whole face (except the delicate eye and lip area) every night and my last bottle lasted me eight whole months so a little really goes a long way! Lastly at night I also apply a generous amount of Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream to my lips. This is a cult product that has been around for many years and it such a wonder product – it’s the best lip treatment you will ever use! I use it sometimes during the day too for a subtle gloss while it works its magic.

Having written my skincare regime down it looks like a lot but it’s actually not really – it’s pretty quick but it’s so effective and packed with ingredients that your skin needs and will love! I have also included in the final group picture below some at home face masks and treatments that I love but I’ll just list them here as I think I have waffled enough about skincare at this stage haha! I just love looking after my skin and I hope you have picked up some tips!
